The Selkie by Rosanna Leo

My review of: The Selkie by Rosanna Leo
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

As a reader always and recent writer too, paranormal mythology has always had the ability to draw me into a novel - if well-written. What I loved about this novel is that it had the right amount of paranormal insight mixed with romance, which was told with just the right amount of descriptive text. For the first time in a while, I found that I could truly escape into a book... the lovely experience of just relaxing in a hot bath with a good read. This read sent me to that relaxed place.

Sometimes a reader is lucky enough to stumble across a new author and fall in love with his / her work. And that's precisely what happened when I per chance bought Lucky 13!

I'm actually rather picky about my romance reads as it is both the genre I write in and prefer to read. Morgan didn't disappoint me in any way with this book. I found myself laughing, crying, stressing and going through many other emotions during this read. In fact, I couldn't put it down and after finishing it, I felt compelled to by another of her books.

Like any good romance, there's a guy (hot of course), a girl (beautiful - go figure - with some insecurities) and an engaging plot rife with inner conflict that the characters need to overcome. Mostly - and to me this is the differentiating factor in romance books - it is a story well told and excellently written. This skill sorts the good books from the great ones and is indicative of a story-teller.

I look forward to reading all her work and to the next story after Lucky 13 too!

Ransom (Book #2 of Redemption) by R. K. Ryals

My review for: Ransom by R. K. Ryals
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
Shanna Roberson

Where do I start? First let me say that Ransom was every bit as good as Redemption and where Redemption hinted to the growing feelings between the bonded Naphil Dayton and Demon Marcus, Ransom revealed what we all knew to be true. *swoon*

Ransom starts right where we left off in Redemption, flying on the Carpet of Solomon in pursuit of the Ring of Solomon, a holy artifact that will release the blood bond between the two. With a deathly fear of heights, Dayton is just barely holding it together.

Everyone she has ever loved is fighting a battle against demons sent to destroy her by Marcus’s mother, Lilith. A battle she just abandoned them to fight on their own so she can betray her only allies in order to find a solution to their bonding.

She’s coming undone and with her new power growing by the day, she hasn’t felt more lost in her own skin. The strength of her Light is a force to be reckoned with but her heart . . . her growing affection for her Demon is drowning her focus.

With a war approaching, both sides are scrambling to sway the pair for their own advantages. And the longer the two stay bonded, the more Heaven and Hell fear the outcome. And the longer Dayton stays by Marcus’ side, the more she risks losing her soul. But it isn’t her soul she fears losing the most; it is her heart.

What happens when a child of God and a product of Hell surrender to their desire to be together? With Satan after Marcus’s obedience and Marcus’s crazy brother thinking a joining between demon and nephilim will bring redemption to them all; will the two be able to fight for the right to decide for themselves?

Ransom is an incredible journey that will leave the reader desperate for more. R.K. Ryals is a master storyteller with the ability to create characters that you can’t live without. I am forever hooked; whatever she decides to write, I will definitely buy without question.

Now on to Retribution . . .

The Horror Challenge Vol II by JH Glaze

Review for: The Horror Challenge Vol II by JH Glaze
Anne Nelson

*flyz back* Into the amazing world of JH Glaze in this awesome collection of off the wall “words” as thy are woven into short horror stories that are sure to leave you wanting more!!!

Never a huge fan of horror, but that was before my mind was changed quickly as I was pulled into Author JH Glaze’s realm, with his phenomenal writing style in my first book of his Spirit Box. Jeff is a genius in his story telling, leading you down paths never before traveled by you, or come to think of it traveled by any before..

You won’t be disappointed, The Horror Challenge Vol 2 is just as dynamic as Vol. 1.. Pick this one up, and be prepared for a journey jammed packed full of stories unlike any other. (Well besides vol. 1 that is)

I think my favorite in this volume was The Guest House, but they are all great!!!! To be able to take random off the wall words and then build a story around it can only be done by Jeff. Well that’s my opinion anyways.

The Horror Challenge series can be read by everyone (almost) it’s a great quick read that will have you shaking your head in wonderment, trying to figure out how the heck he does it. Gesh all I can say at this point is that I am truly hooked on all of Jeff’s books, and haven’t yet been disappoint one bit… Sacred as heck… yes, hiding behind the book.. yes, trying to see what’s coming next without wanting to turn the page.. Yes and all the while waiting for the next book to come out, knowing full well that it’s gonna get me again.

Forced Intelligence by JH Glaze

Review for: Forced Intelligence by JH Glaze
Anne Nelson

I’m still here sitting shaking my head as I write this review… JH Glaze has once again left me stunned by the way his brain is so unstoppable!!!

Forced Intelligence will have you spinning your thoughts around as you are thrown into the world of a “genius” (the science) ... Sure it is highly possible, ok yes most likely that experiments just like these do happen, it doesn’t help put my mind at ease at all!!! The opposite in fact.

The ending was one that I didn’t see coming at all, makes me wonder if things had turned out differently, where would we be in the world, of intelligence?

YES, I actually cried at the ending, no it can’t end this way, oh my gosh, and wow were a few of my thoughts, I was so taken back.

Still baffled and rattled with this phenomenal story, but it’s still a MUST READ. I will warn you though, you will be spinning in circles just like I was as you try to think this one through with all the possibilities that could be actually happening around us, or behind closed doors in this case.

Forced Intelligence is definitely a dark and daunting read, it will have you second guessing the things we “think” are to be true in the world of science.

1. Nerve rattling - Yes
2. Possible - Yes
3. Entertaining - Yes
4. Scary - Yes
5. Twisted - Yes
6. Sad - Yes

And this list could go on and on…

It’s an exceptional read, one that could have had a couple of very different endings. Jeff picked this ending… Which one would you or I pick?

Obumbrate (The Illumine Series) by Alivia Anders

My review for: Obumbrate (The Illumine Series) by Alivia Anders
Anne Nelson

TOP NOTCH - PHENOMENAL

Another amazing spectacular read by the talented Author Alivia Anders!!! I fell in love with Alivia’s work with “Illumine” book #1 of this trilogy, after I had on it as a first reads on Goodreads.

Once I was cocooned in my book zone, I didn’t come out until I was completely finished. (well, I did for breaks)

Then came along “Obumbrate” book #2, and I was given a copy by Alivia herself for my enjoy. So off to my *book zone I went* And as an avid reader I feel it only fair to give my fair and unbiased opinion in this review.

Oh my heavens, I fell in love once more as I headed into the world of nephilim, angels, demons and watchers….

Poor Essallie just wants her life to go back to being normal again. Her world is upside down. The immense weight on her shoulders, knowing that she’s half angel created for war, and the only person who could help her is the very same demon that’s still waiting to kill her. And the only chance for her lies in a boy who had died right in front of her!!!

I just want to wrap Essallie in a nice warm blanket, to keep her safe. Man my angel wings won’t stop being all flustered for her as I read this book.

While still coming into her powers, learning just exactly what she can do and not do, also losing people that she cares about, then two trying to gain her attention (Kayden and Ari) it’s enough to drive anyone crazy. But this is just a few insights of whats in store for poor Essallie… oh and did I mention the fighting/warding off of the ever persistent demons??? Ughh

What will be the fate of Essallie? Who will she give her heart to, or will she? Questions, questions every which way you turn. The suspense and story continue to build; all I can say is please hurry Alivia with book #3, “Riven”!!! it has to have some answers for us.

Well done, on this fabulous sequel that has left me once more hanging on the edge of that “Illumine Cliff”

 A MUST READ!!
