The Acropolis (The Acropolis Series) by R.K. Ryals

My review for: The Acropolis (The Acropolis Series) by R.K. Ryals
Anne Nelson

*BOWS DOWN* to this phenomenal new series. Just as spectacular as “The Redemption Trilogy”

I received this book from Author R.K. Ryals herself for my enjoyment and my fair and unbiased opinion in a review.

I was so sad when The Redemption series ended, I didn’t want to think that there was no more of our Dayton and Marcas. But, at the same time I did want to see where Regina was going to take the rest of the characters and us along with them, to see how they would develop within themselves.

The Acropolis us the beginning of what’s to come next. Woot, woot and the main character is my favorite gargoyle Conor!! Our favorite gargoyle returns to captivate us, as his story is told. He’s a gargoyle this we know, he’s a guardian and a protector this we too know, but what is the rest of the story of him?

Conor has a new charge, (he misses his Dayton though) and her name is Emma Chase. Flighty, skittish and scared of everything and everyone. But, yes she has a reason to be this way.

Emma has been sick (or so they thought) for the last 6 years of her life, going from doctor to doctor, test after test… No one can/could figure out what was wrong with Emma. But, yes there were those that did. Why else would Conor who is a protector-guardian be assigned to Emma?

Yes, there are secrets that will come out about Emma, answers to questions sought after not only by the doctors, but by Emma herself for 6 years. Remember everyone has thought that she was dying.

Author Regina Ryals has come out with a bang in her new series “The Acropolis”, and after loving The Redemption Series I didn’t think it was possible to find again to find that my amazement and love for the characters to land smack right back into my hands with The Acropolis, but it did!! Although I had no doubt that Regina would turn out anything but a spectacular new series.

Regina has such a unique way of creating a phenomenal world, so different from our own, yet you can quite easily and pleasantly place yourself exactly in the same spot and emotions as her charters are.

The masterpiece of “The Acropolis” is so engaging that you will find yourself rooting for Conor and Emma just like you did for Dayton and Marcas. *flies high in sky, flaps wingz and cheers*

If book #1 in this series is any indication of what’s to come to us from R.K. Ryals, then we are in for another mind blowing series!! YAY

This series is going to be A MUST READ, I highly recommend that you get on board and get started. I wait eagerly for book 2 to come out in print “The Labyrinth”

This is just the beginning…

Scarlet Night by Megan Jeannette Parker

My review for Scarlet Night by the fabulous Megan Jeannette Parker.
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
Carrie Perkins-Cunningham

I received this book from Megan in exchange for an honest review and I just have to say THANK YOU!!!

First I would like to tell Miss Megan... YOU'RE KILLING ME! And now that I have expressed my current torture, I can get on with the review.

I started with the prequels to this fabulous book which give a short back story to Vane and Serena and where their lives were at the moment before they met, but even without those very short shorts, you can start from page one of Scarlet Night and have absolutely no problem falling madly in love with these awesome characters.

Vane Murdoch is a vampire with a curse. Though there is no history of why he received this blasted tattoo- which by description alone sounds incredibly hot- we know that he had to have done something horrible. Placed on him by the Taroe, a group of humans with immense magical knowledge, the Curse comes out anytime Zane lets his rage fly, causing him terrible pain, and transforming him into a hideous, powerful beast that's hell bent on a murderous rampage regardless of who is in the cross hairs. After the leader of his vampiric clan, Gregori Vailean, is murdered, the responsibility of finding the lost Heir to the throne is pushed to him. And he's pissed about it.

Serena Vailean is a powerful, sarcastic, foul-mouthed female Auric who ran from everything she'd known after having to much of her father's control, straight into a Hunters arms. After finding love like she'd never known, then losing it in a horrible fire, her life has been reduced to living in a ramshackle cabin in the middle of nowhere, constantly searching for a body for her ghostly lover that stays with her out of love. Or at least that's what she thinks.

When our two hard headed, foul mouth hero's find each other they are instantly attracted, but that doesn't stop the auric fists from flying of course.

We follow Zane, Serena, Zoey- the bubbly Auric with more power than anyone realizes- Isaac, and many others in their journey to save the clan of Vail from Keith, Serena's power hungry, sociopath brother who is hell bent on destroying everything his father ever built.

A powerful love, some of the best shit talking I've heard in a LONG time, awesomely exciting ass kicking, and drop dead Mytho's make this novel one of the best I've read in a long time.

I would give this novel far more stars than allowed, but since they stop at five, that's what I'll have to settle for. Definitely a high recommendation to any that love Vampires, Shifters, smart mouthed heroes, strong females and exciting adventures.

Desire and Fate by Beth Wright

My Review for Desire and Fate by Beth Wright
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Carrie Perkins-Cunningham

I received this free in exchange for an honest review, and extremely glad I got the chance to read it!!

Not something I would ever choose for myself, I was hesitant to start in on this very short story of a woman being stuck on another world with beings that would terrify any sane human being. Then I started reading, and got my socks knocked off by just how awesome the story actually is.

Full of emotion, passion and imagination, this story pulls you along as you read each page. You find Hannah; a human woman who is the only survivor of a brutal attack by the Dromgar's who inhabit the island. Taken by Ozanar- the leader of the clan of Dromgar's- as his mate, she is thrown into a world where the females are vicious beasts who want nothing but to mate, and the males are not only the protectors, but the caregivers to their sons.

Hanna is immediately attracted to her would be rescuer, if not a little afraid. She comes to love the young sons of the males around her, especially Ozanar's son, and is soon the most prized female within the clan, if not the entire land.

I found this story fascinating. Though there was a certain part that I didn't like, it was not a fault of the writing style at all, but one of those moments when you yell at the words on the page at the injustice done to someone of the story.

I do recommend this story. It is fantastical for me only because I'm not the usual Fantasy reader, but full of promise, romance and heroism. A definite four star read for me!

Phoenix Rising (Phoenix #1) by Michelle Stevens

My review for: Phoenix Rising (Phoenix #1) by Michelle Stevens

Jacque Burford

Take a step back to the 80's and meet Beth. She just doesn't have any luck with men including the one she dating. Until one day she is introduced to the world of computers and BBS. Enter in the Keeper and despite a humiliating moment her luck has changed. Follow the journey of the Phoenix as she rises from the ashes.

Oh wow, what can I say? LOVE the book. What a sweet love story. To find love in the last place you would think considering the world of computers in the 80's. I feel complete empathy for Beth. Who hasn't dated a guy that won't go away? I know I've dated a few 'Jims' in my time. The characters are completely likable and anybody who lived through the 80's will recognized the computer terminology. If you don't, may I suggest Googling it.

This is the first book I have read by Michelle Stevens. I find her very well written. Her story flows nicely with humor and honesty anyone that has dated can believe. I look forward to the next chapter in Beth story as well as more books by the author. Very well done Ms. Stevens! You can find it free on Smashwords.

Roses At Dusk by M.W. Russell

My review for: Roses At Dusk by M.W. Russell
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
Meg Holcomb

Thank you to Maree Ward-Russell for giving me this book! Can't wait for the next one! :)

As for my review (very first review ever) of Roses at Dusk:

Wow. Where to begin?! M. W. Russell knocked it out of the park with Roses At Dusk! This was a pulse-pounding, nail-biting, edge of your seat, can't put this book down thriller! Trust me, I read a lot of books but this was such a refreshing twist on what is considered the "norm"! From the first chapter you are drawn into a mysterious, seductive world that promises to intoxicate you with forbidden knowledge & dark desires!

Hannah Malcolm just wants a little normality in her life. After the tragic loss of her family, she decides to get out of the public eye and trades in her life in Chicago, for a quieter, less hectic life in Bar Harbor...or so she thinks! She embarks on a journey through life that will have her questioning not only all those around her, but everything she thought she knew about her life, herself and the very fabric of her beliefs. As you join Hannah in her quest, you will meet funny & lovable characters that will entice you to cry, laugh, rage & even gasp for breath with them as the story unfolds & you work towards solving the mystery!

Roses At Dusk is beautifully written, with an engaging plot & lovable characters that will drag you into the deadly beauty of its world. As the book continues it offers detailed character development that will leave you feeling as if you KNOW the "players" personally & leave you captivated right up to the very end where it leaves you desperate for the next book. It offers a refreshing & unique look at an age old discussion. What do you believe?

This is definitely a must read for anyone who enjoys a great book with an amazing plot & sincere characters that have you rooting for them all the way up to its climatic end that just keeps you guessing.... and ready for more!

I HIGHLY recommend this book & it gets 5 stars from me!

Ancient Blood: A Novel of the Hegemony By Brian Patrick McKinley

My review for Ancient Blood: A Novel of the Hegemony By Brian Patrick McKinley
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
Carrie Perkins-Cunningham

I received this from the author in return for an honest review and I am so excited I got the chance to read this wonderful novel!

A book that only intensifies the reasoning why so many believe in the supernatural, this novel fascinated me beyond belief. Written as an untitled manuscript, with journal entries from his love, Caroline Ludlow, it felt as if I was seeing inside Avery Doyle's life, walking each step and learning each hard taught lesson he had to endure through this trial.

Avery Doyle is a role playing, fantasy loving, book reading nobody who just happens to be in the right place at the right- or wrong, depending on how you look at it- time, when a beautiful, mysterious woman enters the book store he works at asking for information on the Chinese Vampire Jiang-shi. Finding someone who shares his fantastical beliefs, they hit it off and end up spending one night together talking about myths, debating about the truths, and sharing a passion the likes of which Avery has never known.

Then she's gone.

Avery knows she is the being he has spent his entire life fantasizing about, and searches for her for two weeks relentlessly, and needless to say, he finds his mystery love and gets everything he's ever wanted.

Or so he thought.

We follow Avery and Caroline through their journey of freedom, capture, Vampyr Politics, twisted relations and evil minds, and I can't tell you how very intriguing the whole process is.

We see the relationship and growing madness of Sebastian, and in him something we all can relate too. I found myself feeling sympathy for the feral beast that Sebastian had become, secretly rooting for him even as he played his twisted and dark games with Avery and Caroline. We see how the world would work if these powerful beings were more than a work of fiction, how their reach would be limitless, their power far stronger than any would have us believe.

There is so much information in this book, it will have you second guessing all you know- or thought you knew- about the mythological beings we all love to read about.

Yes the chapters are long, but I couldn't honestly see how it would work any other way. Plus it gave me a longer time to read when I did the famous, ‘One more chapter’ we're all so famous for.

I would give this book far more than the five stars they limit us reviewers if I could. I can't recommend this novel highly enough! If you want something more, something that will have your mind reeling, your emotions storming, your heart breaking... If you want a novel that pulls you in and refuses to let you go, well, you've found it!
