Chatting With the Fabulous Stacey Rourke

We have the lovely Stacey Rourke on the blog today and I couldn’t be more excited! If you are unfamiliar with her work, here are the blurbs taken from Amazon/Goodreads along with the links to her book trailers! Remember the best thing you can do for your favorite writers is spread the word, review and stay the heck away from pirating sites!

The Conduit (book one of the Gryphon Series)

All 18-year-old Celeste Garrett wants is to head off to college and make those fun, yet ill-advised, choices college kids are known for. And maybe to spend some time with the hot cameraman she just met. Instead, because of a pact her ancestors made in the 17th century with a mythical creature, she has to save the world.

While normal kids are slamming energy drinks and cramming for exams, Celeste will get her adrenaline rush fighting a fire breathing dragon. She wants to meet friends in the quad to exchange lecture notes, but first she must exchange blows with a shapeshifting demon on the rooftop. Life isn’t always fair for a superhero, but at least she doesn’t have to do it alone. With her brother and sister as sidekicks, they alternate between saving lives and getting on each other’s nerves. Together the trio encounters unspeakable odds, mystical forces and comes face-to-face with an image that will haunt them forever—their grandmother in a leopard print bikini.

"Okay, little side note here. If a psychopathic killer asks if you want to see a trick, say no. That’s the smart thing to do. I, on the other hand, responded, 'Bring it'." -excerpt from THE CONDUIT

Embrace (book two of Gryphon Series)

Whether she likes it or not, eighteen year old Celeste Garrett has come to terms with being the Chosen One. She knew having a “normal life” would be tricky, between intense training sessions and epic demonic battles, but she didn’t know at what cost it would come. That is, until a dear friend is harmed by the malicious forces hunting her.

Now, she’d like nothing more than to retreat into a hermit lifestyle to prevent anyone else from getting hurt. But startling revelations, amazing new abilities, and mortifying moments in front of insanely hot guys won’t allow time for that. Soon, Celeste finds herself surrounded by darkness and wondering who she can trust—if anyone.

The Sidekick Chronicles (A Gryphon Series Novella)

Celeste isn't the only member of the Garrett family whose life changed when destiny called. Every sidekick has their tale and in this Gryphon Series short the spotlight is turned on Kendall, Grams and even Gabe. Get an inside look at the hilarious stress that goes along with being a...sidekick.

Sidekicks...ya can't live with 'em and you'd probably die horribly without 'em.

Sacrifice (book three of Gryphon Series)
To be released March 2013

Celeste Garrett has finally found a happy balance in her life as the Chosen One, thanks in large part to a certain hunky Irishman. But if there’s any lesson she should heed since receiving her calling it’s that everything can change in the blink of an eye. Soon a terrible new threat, unlike anything she’s ever encountered, causes her to make a gut-wrenching choice that will strip her of someone she holds dear.

As much as she’d like to have a pity party for one, there’s no time for that now because wedding bells are ringing in Gainesboro! In between dress fittings and rehearsal dinners Celeste will have to fend off attacking demons and leering pirates. As if the Dark Army wasn’t scary enough our heroine is faced with the horrifying trauma of attending a bachelorette party with her mom and watching Grams do Jello shots. Is a walk down the aisle even possible for a member of the Garrett family when the Dark Army is out to destroy them? More importantly, will the Dark Army Glee Club sing at the reception?

Raise your glass to the happy couple, and get ready for a wedding...Conduit-style.

Okay now for the fun part, the Q&A!! But first I want to thank the fabulous Stacey Rourke for giving us some insight into her creative mind! *squeeee* Thank you!!

For my first question I have to ask, most of my favorite authors are indie or self-pubbed, what made me you decide to go that route?

I went small press because of the control over my own work that it gives me. I have input in the cover creation, editing, formatting, distribution, the whole bit. That is very important to me.

I totally get that! Okay now here is a hard one! Out of all the books you have written which is your favorite?

Oh geez! That’s like asking which of my kids I like best! LOL! Usually my previous work is my favorite and that makes me terrified of my work in progress. For example, Sacrifice is getting ready to release, therefore I view it as the Golden Child that can do no wrong. I then look at Ascension in its first draft form and accusing declare, “Why can’t you be more like Sacrifice?” It’s a vicious cycle.

LOL! Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

Standing out in the crowd. Eegads Batman there are a LOT of authors out there right now!

Well, I think you are doing a fabulous job standing out in the sea of new authors. And I know for a fact you are wildly popular with the Indie crowd, what is one thing you would like to tell your fans?

Aww! Am I? I seriously didn’t know! To my fans I just want to say thank you, thank you, thank you!! And if you keep reading them, I’ll keep writing ‘em!!!!

I think we can all agree to that! Okay here is another tough one, I know characters are like children but if you could chose, who’s your favorite?

That’s tough!! As the series draws to a close all I can think of is who I will miss the most, which instantly has me depressed at saying goodbye to these characters. Way to go, you bummed me out. I’ll be in the corner crying…

Oh no! I take it back! *hugs* Okay changing topics, what are your current projects? Can you share a little of your current work with us?

I am editing a Gryphon Series novella that will be out a few months after Sacrifice is released. I’m almost finished with the first draft of the FINAL Gryphon Series novel, Ascension, and I have a new story that I will be starting on after that which is all sorts of top secret!

Such a tease! I can’t wait to learn more about Project Top Secret! What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?

There is a little bit of the author in every single character we create. If we want to make them real and get inside their heads we have to channel different aspects of our personality. Occasionally this can teach us things about ourselves that we never knew.

Thought provoking! Okay for my last question, do you have any advice for other writers?

Read everything you can get your hands on. Don’t limit yourself to genre, but expand your mind through the worlds and words of others.

That is wonderful advice! Thank you so much for stopping by and all of us at Trudy and Friends can’t wait to see what you come up with next! *hugs*

Here is where you can stalk the lovely Stacey Rourke!
